55ft Sperm Whale, Kiakoura facebook/melvinnicholsonphotography I shared a boat with several Japanese tourists who were all armed with their little compact cameras. Enter onboard me, a DSLR user with a 300mm lens. I appeared to be the Godfather of all wildlife photographers if their reaction to this image was to be believed, lol. Still I was more than happy to see such a beautiful creature in the wild and when I saw its tail disappear beneath the surface of the water for the last time, I felt strangely sad.
