6 things you may not know about Tupac Shakur 1-Tupac was named after Túpac Amaru II, a Peruvian revolutionary who led an indigenous uprising against Spain and was subsequently executed.Tupac Amaru means “Shining serpent” in Incan Indian and Shakur means “Thankful to God” in Arabic. 2-Tupac was an avid reader, with some of his favorite authors to include: William Shakespeare, Niccolò Machiavelli, Donald Goines, Sun Tzu, Kurt Vonnegut, Maya Angelou, and Alice Walker. 3-Tupac is one of only three rappers to ever get a song (“Dear Mama”) added to the Library of Congress National Recording Registry. The other 2 rap artists are Public Enemy and Grandmaster Flash 4-Marlon Wayans They met on the set of Above the Rim and became good friends. Marlon has said that being with Tupac wasn’t like being with this gangsta that everyone made Tupac out to be.
