61) Young Edward Nashton was a very intelligent boy. But he was more than smart. He was obsessively smart. He knew he was smart and wanted everyone else to know. Even as a student, he had this obsession. His teacher announced that there would be a contest for his students. Whoever solved a certain puzzle in the shortest amount of time would win. The prize was a book of riddles. A friendly contest until Edward decided to sneak into the school one night to practice solving the puzzle in under a minute. As predicted, he won and the satisfaction was his own reward. As he grew older, his obsession intensified. The puzzles he loved to solved evolved. Instead of solving them, he made them. Simple puzzles turned into complex death traps that he would love seeing others get out of. As a side hobby, he would be a consultant for the police. He would often solve crimes but give the police the answers in the form of riddles. Although it was nice to win, the glory was nothing if his opponents were simple-minded fools. Until one night, Batman appeared. He observed his work and noticed he was quite the detective. So Edward wanted to begin his game. He stooped to Batmans level and donned a mask and flamboyant costume. With a green domino mask, a green bowler hat, a green suit with question marks everywhere, he became the Riddler. He would set up riddles and traps for Batman. Even when Riddler had the upper hand, even when he was seconds away from killing him, Riddler cannot just simply shoot him or stab him. He has to kill him in the most flamboyant way possible. His mentality makes it so Riddler most kill him in his own puzzled way. Another obsession of his, Riddler must know everything. If Batman is able to escape a death trap, Riddler must know. Sometimes Batman would purposely let Riddler wonder. This causes him to stay up every night, wondering, screaming, HOW DID HE DO IT! HOW???!! Although he is a dangerous and insane criminal, there is no denying that he is intelligent. Whenever the police and Batman need assistant, they would arrange a meeting where the Riddler would, of course, provide riddles for them to solve which helps solve the case. Why would he help them? He finds satisfaction in the fact that the people who beat him would still come to him for help.
