6PM NEWS UPDATE Orange Uganda PEACE DEAL: The highly anticipated peace agreement brokered by mediators to bring to an end to a month long conflict between South Sudans government and rebels is soon to be signed. The ceasefire agreement is to be signed at 1700 GMT in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa. EAC SECURITY PROTOCOL: Government has ratified the East African Community Peace and Security Protocol signed in Tanzania last year. The signing of the peace and security protocol demonstrates Uganda’s commitment to a secure region in pursuit of economic and social development. SUDAN CONFLICT: State minister for defense Jeje Odongo has faced the wrath of parliamentary defense committee members when they directed him to produce a letter written by President Salvar Kir asking for UPDF’S deployment in South Sudan. Odongo however referred the lawmakers to the president for a copy of the letter as didn’t have it. EBYAFFE: Tooro kingdom has for the second time refused to honour government’s agreement for the return of the kingdom assets. The kingdom says the agreement is lacking and needs to be amended to include land the commercial buildings in Bundibugyo, royalties from resources and Queen Elizabeth national park among others. “A RABBIT” IN MANDELA’S SCULPTURE: The South African government has ordered the removal of a rabbit that was secretly sculpted into a recently unveiled statue of Nelson Mandela.
