7/18/2013 I will probably not be on the ballot THIS November. Hello supporters and friends. I appreciate you guys and the faith in my commitment to you all. I may not however, appear on the ballot this November, as I was not able to pull together my resources in time. My election to City Council, this year, now rests on the council electing me themselves on the 22nd. Anyone who wishes to support me as I speak to them should come to the Government Center Building located at 600 E. 4th St in the Meeting Chamber at 6:30 pm. HOWEVER, I am still collecting signatures, and would like to see how far I can get until noon tomorrow. ANYONE who has ANY time between now and then to print this document: (https://docs.google/file/d/0B331cymOUhAVTzZaWTJpc3l4c3M/edit?usp=sharing) And collect signatures in my name, I would greatly appreciate it. I do not consider this a futile exercise in that it is a process I believe should be tested for the sake of its own improvement. I thank those who have already done this, and anyone who simply showed interest in assisting me in any way. I’ll still need you. Most of my time was spent in study of the job itself and how to reconcile good standing with influential members of local government, and my outrage at the steps and day to day procedures they take in maintain the city’s fiscally conservative appearance. No matter the outcome, I will be running again in two years time, and will continue cultivating a strongly connected base, and expand on my principals as openly and simply as possible. The continuing good footing of Charlotte in the view of the business world will benefit all of its citizens, in that the city’s ability to streamline services and manufacture opportunity will be increased. I have concerns that the theory of benefit will not be as closely examined by those who create and vote on procedures as those who are more fatally impacted by them over the next few decades. Even those citizens add up to a miniscule number due to the way media and local government present policy. It is difficult to address a policy, if you don’t know it’s been put in place, or stop one if you don’t know it’s being created. In December 2009, Mayor Anthony Foxx appointed and charged the Efficient and Effective Government Review Task Force. One of their opinions that I aggressively agree with has to do with the communication between citizens and policy makers. The months bleeding into years that I have spent following and developing opinions on things such as the Airport, Tax policy, light rail were indeed enriched by a new understanding of the significance and influence things such as the city’s AAA rating, managed competition, and the public safety pay plan. My decisions on council, would take a multitude of factors into account, but always coming from a place of obligation to my district. I don’t see any reason to run for any office unless the well being of those that you are designated to represent take first priority in all considerations. After that it is up to you to bridge the gap between that and your body, you colleague’s, own obligations to their constituents. I will continue as planned, elected or not, because I do not need an official title to do what I think is best as a civic minded citizen. Again, I appreciate all of the support and hope I can count on it continuing over the next two years, where I will be reclaiming or claiming public office. If anyone would like to collect signatures, please do so until 11pm tomorrow July 18, 2013, and let me know. Thank you JLWII
