7/8/13 - NILE VALLEY Ethnically, Egyptians are an African People that school textbooks tend to disregard, in most instances, by putting Egypt in a chapter by itself without any reference to its people being related to African stock. Ancient Egyptian roots are in Nubia and Kush, which is now Ethiopia. These black people traveled up the Nile, while other cultures moved East from the Sahara and west from the Middle-East. Egypt as an African nation influenced the spread of civilization to Greece and throughout the world. Kush and Nubia (Lower Egypt), Now known as Ethiopia, existed in the first vapor of humanity and their people established kingdoms long before their migration up the Nile valley in the 4th century BC. They were primarily hunters and fishermen, but knowledgeable in agriculture of wheat and barley, and highly skilled in arts and crafts. Having mastered fire, fashioned tools and smelted iron before the reign of Menes, 3200 BC., they traveled the Nile waters to influence the culture of Upper Egypt.
