7 Benefits of a Stand-up Work Station . 1. Increased energy expenditure (calorie burning). 2. Improved Posture (less kyphosis and rounded shoulders). 3. Less back and neck pain (because of improved posture). 4. More muscle (sitting makes you weaker because many muscles are de-activated) . 5. Decreased body-fat (because of increased energy expenditure and more muscle). 6. Greater core strength (because it’s working when you’re standing). 7. Improved overall health (many studies highlight a correlation between excessive sitting and disease). . The human body was not meant to exist in a seated position but sadly, we have become the sit-down generation. As a result, we have become fatter, lazier, weaker and less functional. So, should we spend our entire day standing? No, that can also be problematic but my recommendation is to start with 10-15 minutes of standing (per work hour) and build to a ratio of something around 50:50 (stand-sit).
