70)-Hon’ble Vice President Hamid Ansari accorded a warm welcome on his arrival at Port Blair Port Blair, Jan 10: Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri M. Hamid Ansari, accompanied by his wife Smti Salma Ansari arrived on a four day visit to these Islands today. They were accorded a warm welcome and received by Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Lt. Gen. A K Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, (Retd.), First Lady of the Islands, Smti Suneeti Singh, as soon as they alighted from the Air Force Plane at INS Utkrosh here this afternoon. Hon’ble Vice President was presented an impressive Guard of Honour by the contingent of Andaman & Nicobar Police. Among others present to receive the Vice President included, the Commander-in-Chief, A&N Command, Vice Admiral P K Chatterjee, Mrs Chatterjee, the Chief Secretary. Dr Anand Prakash IAS, the Adhyaksha Zilla Parishad South Andaman, Ms. Mariyam Bibi, the Chairperson PBMC, Shri M Arumugam, the Director General of Police, Shri Sudhir Yadav IPS and a host of senior officers from Defence and Civil Administration. Soon after arrival, Hon’ble Vice President, accompanied by Smti Salma Ansari, visited the National Memorial Cellular Jail, placed a wreath and offered tributes at the Martyrs’ Column there. They also visited the Cellular Jail and later witnessed the popular ‘Light and Sound Show’. On January 11, 2015, Hon’ble Vice President shall visit the Andaman and Nicobar Tribal Research Institute (ANTRI). Later in the evening, the Vice President will attend a ‘Civic Reception’, hosted in his honour, by the Port Blair Municipal Council at 4 pm at DBRAIT. The itinerary of Hon’ble Vice President on Jan 12 includes visiting the picturesque Ross Island in the morning. Thereafter, the Hon’ble Vice President will visit the Andaman and Nicobar Command Headquarters where the Commander in Chief, ANC will brief him. Later, the Vice President will leave for Havelock Island. On January 13th, Hon’ble Vice President will go to Car Nicobar where he will visit the Tsunami Memorials at Air Force Station and Big Lapathy. Hon’ble Vice President will also hold interaction with the members of the Tribal Council and witness a cultural programme at Passa Beach. On completion of the visit, Hon’ble Vice President and Smti Salma Ansari will depart for New Delhi on the afternoon of January 13, 2015. (and.nic.in -ipdvn)-
