70 years ago my dad Bill Rowe had just graduated High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Like his Father before him, that had served in WWI He knew he was going to war, this was WWII everyone that joined up back then knew they were going to war. Dads older brother, my Uncle Eugene Rowe was a few years ahead of him, and had already joined the U.S. Marines so he was already in the war, somewhere. Back then, nobody knew if they were coming home, but they knew they had to go. Men held things like Patriotism, Honor and Duty in high esteem in those days. My Dad served our Nation and the U.S. Navy, in the Pacific, and while there he was able to meet up with my Uncle Eugene and was able to spend most of the day with him (a jarhead and a squid) before they each had to return to their respective units, and the war. Dad was a Gunners Mate on a Sub Tender. They both made it home from the war, married and had big families, Today, Dad is living in Joplin, MO. where he was born. He is one of the men of The Greatest Generation. The world owes all these men a debt of gratitude. Big salute to The Greatest Generation! God Bless Em!
