70 years ago today my father landed at Utah Beach with Company G. Thank you Christian McLeod a young historian who traced my fathers steps as his group fought through France, Belgium Germany and finally Luxembourg where he was wounded January 16, 1944. He never spoke about landing on the beaches of course he died when I was so young, long before the vets began to unveil the horrors they had experienced. He earned a Purple Heart, 3 Theatre Ribbons and 2 Bronze Battle Stars. These medals make him a hero to others but he was always my hero. He died in 1975 in part due to complications from his wounds. Thank you Dad for your sacrifice for my freedom. I miss you! Below L to R: Dad in Basic Training, Dad with the nurse that helped heal him and Dads enlistment photo they used in the newspaper article describing his being wounded in action.
