70 years ago today, scared but determined young American men, - TopicsExpress

70 years ago today, scared but determined young American men, stormed the beaches in Normandy. They paid a fearful price. To put it into perspective, more men died on that day than have perished in the 12 years of combined conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan (which in no way diminishes their service) 12,000 of them. Their graveyards dot the landscape of Normandy. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude. Today, we can write a song, and sing it freely, we can print and speak opinions that are critical of our own government, and we can choose mostly to live where and how we want. Not so still in many parts of the world. The freedoms that George Mason and James Madison penned in our Bill of Rights have been backed up and paid for by the blood of those who have willingly sacrificed their lives for this great country. Yes, we have many issues to resolve, but name another, better, country in which you would want to live, and then go live there! I love my country, warts and all, and I am proud to be an American and to have served this country. I am humbled, though, by these young men, who 70 years ago today swallowed their fear, and advanced freedoms cause. Many of them were our parents or grandparents generation. In my mind, they are indeed, the greatest generation!
