8/24/13 BIBLE PASSAGE: 8/24/13 BIBLE PASSAGE (Matthew 14: 1-21) From Matthew: King Herod gave blank check (cheque) to a young girl during his birthday. He told the girl to ask whatever she wanted, and it would be given to her. To everyone’s surprise, the young girl liaised with her mother to make an imaginable request. She asked the king to kill John Baptist and present his head on her plate. Meanwhile, Herod was embarrassed to say no. He satisfied his pride by killing John Baptist to satisfy the girl’s request. The scripture reported the event, “…When Herod’s birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod. Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. So she, having been prompted by her mother, said, “Give me John the Baptist’s head here on a platter. And the king was sorry; nevertheless, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he commanded it to be given to her. So he sent and had John beheaded in prison. And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother”” (Matthew 14:6-11). Lesson: Children of God should be careful not to allow emotion to cloud their judgments over any situation. We are children of God, and we should rely on the Holy Spirit of God to guide us during decision-making process. Also, we should not be carried away with events and circumstances. We should not allow either happy or sad moment to influence our judgments. Prayer: Dear God, please help me to rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit at all times. Let your Spirit guide me to make right decisions that will glorify your name. Do not let moments of happiness or sadness influence my godly decisions. Let me remain your faithful child unto the end.
