8 SEP 13 ... 1. The High court is the head of the judiciary in the state. 2. Every judge of High Court is appointed by the president. 3. The judge of a high court can hold office until the age of 62 years. 4. Salaries and allowances of the High Court judges are charged on the Consolidated Fund of the State. 5. The District Courts of India are established by the State governments in India for every district or for one or more districts together taking into account the number of cases, population distribution in the district. 6. These courts are under administrative and judicial control of the High Court of the State to which the district concerned belongs. 7. The highest court in each district is that of the District and Sessions Judge. 8. District and session court is the principal court of civil jurisdiction. It has the power to impose any sentence including capital punishment. 9. On criminal side the lowest court is that of the Judicial Magistrate. Judicial Magistrates decide criminal cases which are punishable with imprisonment of up to five years. 10. The district court has appellate jurisdiction over all subordinate courts situated in the district on both civil and criminal matters.
