9/16/14 - Day53: Rather late post, but Elecia had a very difficult day with Keiths appointment. Keith went to OU to get the remainder of his oral hardware removed. The metal brackets that were mounted, werent actually attached to his teeth. In fact, they were attached to his gums with wires that went through the gums on both the top and bottom. What we thought was going to be a somewhat routine removal, with a special plier-like instrument turned out to be a much bigger ordeal. They injected Keiths gums to deaden them prior to cutting the wires and pulling the wires through. Elecia had to nearly lay on him to hold his feet still. Elecia witnessed a few tears before he went to sleep. I hope he went to sleep and not passed out due to the pain. I have directed Elecia that if I ever get my face broken up, just leave it the way it is because Im sure I would not do as well as Keith did. This was an all afternoon ordeal and very exhausting for both Keith and Elecia. All he had prior to the appointment was Tylenol for pain. Elecia got him some more Tylenol after returning to Jim Thorpe. Keith also got a new chair today with better restraints to keep him from sliding out. The staff at Thorpe also provides a progress report every Tuesday. Keith has improved in all categories in the first week.
