9-9-09 Five years ago today I experienced one of the coolest things Ive ever had a chance to be a part of. I was guiding my good friend Tom Healy on the Manistee River in Michigan when we boated the IGFA All-Tackle World Record Brown Trout. The fish was 43 3/4 long and weighed 41lb 7oz. What ensued was, for lack of a better word, chaos. My phone didnt stop ringing for a couple of weeks. I heard from people all over the world, literally. The story made newspapers in London, Russia, South America, throughout Europe, Australia, and throughout the US (including USA Today)...and those are only the ones I heard about. CNN ran the story for a couple of days. We heard from people in Hawaii, Great Britain, and Australia after they saw it on TV. Field & Stream ran the exclusive first pics online. Countless magazines ran stories, both in the US and abroad. Something Ill never forget. The best part of the whole thing was Tom being the one that was able to catch it. If I could have picked someone to catch that fish, without hesitation it would have been him.
