Ok, ok.....here it is. The reason I couldnt just post it....its kind of long.... OK. Here it is. BREAKING NEWS. This may not be exciting to many of you and nothing is even close to official yet but we have been instructed that it is very important to start a dialog now with family and friends so here it is... Ryan and I have been taking adoption classes for the past 7 weeks. We have 1 week until we graduate. We have mentioned it to a few people but of those few, none have asked questions or talked to us much about it which led us to believe perhaps they do not support this. A few have mentioned horror stories. LET ME BE CLEAR. Ryan and I are by no stretch of the imagination, idiots. We do not enter into decisions like this lightly. This is something that we have discussed at length for years and moreso now. After much soul searching, we have decided that we are mentally, emotionally, physically and financially capable of doing this. We understand that we have 2 birth children and if anyone thinks that we have not thought about them, they do not know us at all. With regards to age, gender, race etc....we are open to everything. Nothing is going to happen quickly, or even definitely. What IS official is that we are enrolled in the class and have taken the next step. We are NOT looking for criticism or horror stories. We have heard it all already, trust me. I am aware this will not be easy. At all. However, advice and support is ESPECIALLY welcomed from anyone who HAS adopted or WAS adopted. Especially from the foster care program over the age of 4 or 5. What we hope to accomplish by announcing this: that we can begin to build our support system. If we do adopt in the future, that child be be ours. Unconditionally. We are a little unsure of how some people may act and can only hope that friends and family will also accept the child with an open heart as if he/she were ours biologically. Again, we are not 100% adopting. We are almost finished with the class and we are going to pursue this, whether it be now or 3 years from now. There. Thats it. We are taking a class and are hoping for support. We are ready to discuss it openly. Its Facebook Official. :)
