9 years ago today, July 20, 2005, we sat in a New Hanover County court room for the Sentencing Hearing of the young man responsible for taking you away from us. A day I will never forget...for many reasons but mostly for the spirit of God that graced the room that day. A sad day indeed. There were no victories, no winners walked away from the court room that day. All had lost something in the wake of the tragedy that changed my life so profoundly and permanently on July 25, 2004... How is it possible that you are gone and Ive managed to breathe 10 years after you took your last breath? I dont understand how its possible to miss you even more now than on that day, I dont understand how my heart has carried the weight of such sorrow for all these years nor do I understand how it is that love can still find its way to my soul in the midst of so much hurt...I only know it does and it makes room for peace to cover the wounds while love heals the heart. My soul cries out for you every day and Im comforted by the sense that you hear it. Somehow, some way you calm the silent screams within and help me to keep going, patiently waiting for the day when well be together again. Until then, life goes on...and Ill do my best to summon up the courage to continue to go on with it. I love you Brian. Hugs to you, Philip and Cameron.
