91 MILLION ARE OUTSIDE THE LABOR POOL, BUT HOW MANY ACTUALLY WANT BACK IN? Glenn Kessler, the Washington Post fact checker, posed that question this morning. And he concluded that there are 21 million who are on the sidelines of the job market. The Fact Checker got his facts wrong. He ignore the millions who dropped out of the workforce over the last five years. He ignored those who stay at home to care for ailing family members ... and dont get paid. He ignored the stay-at-home moms and dads who raise the kids ... and dont get paid. He ignored those students who went to grad school because there were no jobs in their field and the laid-off workers attending community colleges to improve their skills for the same reason. He ignored those prematurely retired by their companies who are discriminated against because theyre older AND unemployed. Instead he claimed that the vast majority (of the 91 million) are simply retired. Glenn Kessler ought to get HIS facts straight. Or hell be the one getting Four Pinocchios.
