A 21-year-old man has been arrested in New South Wales for the murder of Emma Mei Tian at Burnside in March 2011. NSW Homicide Detectives with the assistance of the Australian Federal Police this morning made the arrest of Wei Li using a South Australian Warrant after the man arrived at Sydneys airport on a Air China flight from Beijing. Ms Tians body was found in her home at Lockwood Road, Burnside. The 41-year-old had been bashed and her death was declared a Major Crime. The investigation immediately focused on Ms Tian’s son Wei Li, who had fled the country. On 25 March 2011, a Warrant of Apprehension was issued at the Adelaide Magistrates Court for the arrest of Wei Li for his mothers murder. It is believed that Wei Li has been living in China since he fled Australia. Chinese authorities recently advised Australian authorities that Wei Li was in China without a valid visa and would be deported to Australia. Ms Tian’s husband has been advised of the arrest of his son. Assistant Commissioner Paul Dickson said: The arrest of Wei Li is a very significant outcome for SAPOL. Murder investigations never close and this arrest demonstrates SAPOLs commitment to ensure offenders are held accountable for their actions. It is expected an application will be made today before the relevant New South Wales Court to extradite Wei Li back to South Australia.
