A CNA at a local nursing home is accused of stealing patients’ medications. An employee at a local nursing home is accused of stealing patients’ medications. Angela D. Smith, 45, was a certified nursing assistant at the Waters of Dillsboro, according to a probable cause affidavit. In April, the Dearborn County Special Crimes Unit came to investigate when 12 hydrocodone pills went missing from two patients at the home. Administrators at the Waters used prescription documentation to narrow the alleged theft down to Smith. Smith later failed a drug test, allegedly testing positive for opiates, specifically hydrocodone and hydromorphone Smith, who lives in Dillsboro, was arrested June 14 on a charge of Theft (Class D felony). She paid $1,000 to bond out of jail the same day. A jury trial is currently scheduled for November 12 in Dearborn Superior Court I.
