A CYNICAL VIEW OF THE ROYAL WEDDING By Philip Jr Lustre We - TopicsExpress

A CYNICAL VIEW OF THE ROYAL WEDDING By Philip Jr Lustre We hardly discussed serious topics during our New Year celebration at the Quezon City house of our friend Nick Ferrer. But somehow, we discussed the royal wedding of an actor and an actress. Toto Ylagan was brutally frank to say that while it took seven bishops and eight priests (I do not know if it was I or he, who gave the correct number) to wed the couple, it would only take a single judge to annul their marriage, which is a common occurrence among entertainment couples. We could only flash cynical smiles. Jimmy Cantor gave a rejoinder, musing if we really need such an grand wedding. I told him it was more of showbiz thing with the television network that employs them footing a huge portion of the bill. Jimmy could not fathom why they had to spend so much amid the mass poverty of our people. Corrie Narisima could not believe the estimates that the amount spent on the wedding gown alone could provide decent clothing for some 100 impoverished children. I told them I could not believe it either. But I also said it was fine so long as these people would not run for public office the moment their careers are no longer on the upswing. We absolutely do not need them. ADDENDUM: I just said in the thread that there was nothing royal in that wedding. The couple do not belong to the royalty. It was more of a media hype to describe it as royal. On the contrary, it was a wedding of two social climbers.
