A Compatriot wrote…. The US Mid term elections and the Nigerian legislative paradox: In Presidential and parliamentary democracies the speaker of the house and senate or its equivalent come from the majority party. This explains the ease with which the former US senate leader a democrat quit once his party lost majority in the senate. At best he will now become the minority leader of the senate. In Nigeria a speaker leaves to the minority party and still expects to remain speaker. To make it worse as speaker and one of the chief law makers he is expected to have a full understanding of the constitution of Nigeria. The constitution states that if he defects as he has done he ceases to be a member of the house. One would expect that the man Tambawul who claims to be on a moral high ground, watching the body language of the executive and seeing a soft stance on corruption would walk the moral high ground and resign as a member of parliament honorably. Instead he displays a poor understanding of simple English in which the constitution is written and expects to continue to be the speaker. I can imagine a scenario where the majority leader defects to the minority party e.g APC and expects to remain majority leader of the house, I am certain it would be a very unexplainable act. It is obvious that Tambawul and his new party are acting like a bunch of anarchists with no respect for rules, no iota of honor and no morals. They are a gang of self seeking individuals who prey on the liberties of a democracy and use it to blackmail or white-mail everyone to attain their selfish ends. I urge them to take a cue from the democrats in the US, and spare us this unnecessary distraction.
