A Contradiction That Never Was Philippians 2:12 12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 1 John 4:18 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. Fear of the Lord is one of the most misunderstood concepts that the bible portrays. This is why complete understanding of the word can only take place first by accepting Jesus Christ into your heart by repenting from your sins. Jesus did in fact begin his ministry on this earth by saying Repent for the Kingdom is at hand. Aside from that the subject of what it means to fear the Lord and to tremble is something that i feel needs to be clear. In my opinion you and cannot even begin to grasp salvation, sanctification at all until this gets worked out. To both be saved and put into the process of sanctification one must know who it is that he or she is believing in. The word is clear as to what it means fear is in context as to our relationship with God is. Proverbs 8:13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. It is not to literally be afraid of God. God is not a God who should be fear in such a way. To paint a picture of God in this way to me is to teach something so desperately un biblical would not truly put into words. I cant be more clear about this. GOD LOVES YOU. HE CREATED YOU IN HIS IMAGE. To hate you or to want you to be afraid of him would not be a God that encouraged you to love him with all your heart and soul. Yes i understand the wrath of God to the best of my human ability. I also know God the Father sent his only begotten son to die on the cross to be punishment for our sins. John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 3:16 For God so loves the world. He gave his only begotten son. That WHOSOEVER believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. So the first way we work our salvation is to Hate evil. Repent from our old evil ways. Obedience to God and the life that Christ showed us is the key. Anyone can say different, but read the word it will tell you time and time again obedience is a vital part of what faith in Christ really means. What does it mean to tremble. To me to tremble at the word of God is to truly be astonished at what it teaches about the one we serve. The demons tremble out of a different fear. A more carnal fear. We should always be amazed at His forgiveness, love, kindness, mercy, grace, sovereignty. All His many attributes. We should never desire to abuse Him, forsake Him. Dont be scared if you make a mistake. Learn from it and be astonished and grateful for his forgiveness. Repent and move forward. Repent is more than Im sorry God. It is as complex yet simple as faith itself. Be astonished at his creation and how magnificent it is.You want to understand about trembling read the last parts of Job. God says to Job Where were you when I.... Read Genesis Chapter one and be amazed. Let his word in private study bring you to your knees. Not a afraid based trembling but in absolute awe. Understand that God the Christian God of the bible is a patient God who hates sin and is moving in you to put away sin and embrace God the son Jesus Christ. he is not willing that any should perish. But there comes a point when and it will come to this point. That the only way to keep his promise to the ones that are from the free willing receivers of faith by grace promised salvation and are to inherit Christ for all eternity. He must destroy the wickedness in this world. So if you are so moved to follow Jesus Christ do so out of love. Not because you are afraid. Perfect love cast all fear. Perfect love casts out sin. God bless!
