A DAY IN MY LIFE CATEHCHISM CLASS My second school was St. Mary - TopicsExpress

A DAY IN MY LIFE CATEHCHISM CLASS My second school was St. Mary in Marion, Ohio. I was 7 upon entering the 3rd grade and the teacher quickly realized I was too young and not meeting the academic standards of the Catholic School system. So I was demoted to the 2nd grade, repeating the year tightening up all the loose academics specifically reading, writing, arithmetic, and a new subject, the Baltimore Catechism. As a kid, theology made little sense to me and having to read and memorize word for word “Why did God make us?” just invoked further fear in me. It was the fear of reciting this stuff in front of the class as Mrs. Bauldoff glared at me with constant interruptions interjecting verbs and adjectives from my shaky recitations. I wasn’t the only kid feeling the pressure. Poor David Welch, a kid who sat next to me, was shaking like Jell-O when he suddenly lost it. I mean he lost his lunch and his religious textbook became its victim. It seemed like ages before the janitor arrived shaking sawdust on top of David’s desk and his sense of urgency to clean it up was akin to my reluctance to memorize the following two pages of questions and answers that included Of which must we take more care, our soul or our body? and Why must we take more care of our soul than of our body? I think I’m going to be sick!
