A Day In My Life As A Ranger: Today was my last day training in the front country before heading into the wilderness of 7 days on Monday. For the second day I was with Alex, a ranger stationed at the Kendall guard station in the northern area of the forest. We started off by patrolling atv roads in the off highway vehicle where I found a perfect meadow to camp in this weekend during my time off. Should be a great place for moose and Milky Way photos. We traded the ohv for the govt truck and patrolled the campground, where we issued 9 written warnings for violations ranging from food storage to an unattended campfire that had to be extinguished and called into Teton Interagency dispatch. We Made several visitor contacts and informed the visitors of the skull crusher... Who is a very large grizzly bear who has taken at least 9 cattle ( yearlings about 900 pounds in size) in the area by crushing their skulls (very atypical for a predatory attack!). Finished the day by cutting up a tree blocking a trail, looking for some overdue hikers and assisting a dirt bike rider whose bike decided not to run any longer. Not a bad Friday at all :-)
