A Devotional for such a time as this: - from: Stanley, C. F. (1998). Enter His gates: a daily devotional. Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishers. ____________ YOUR EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION SCRIPTURE READING: Romans 7:15–19 KEY VERSE: Romans 8:11 If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Some former prisoners have a lot of trouble adjusting to the “life outside,” especially if they have been incarcerated for many years. Even though the bars and restrictions are removed, their behavior patterns still reflect a lifestyle of imprisonment. Many are overwhelmed emotionally by the sudden flood of freedoms and seek ways to return to the life they knew. When Jesus sets you free from sin, you are no longer held captive by sin’s impulses and desires. You do not have to heed them, but many times, however, you may give a knee–jerk reaction when those desires assert themselves. Old habits die hard, and it’s difficult to shake off living patterns that may be entrenched after a period of years. Paul expressed this frustration in Romans 7:15–19: “For that which I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do.… For the good that I wish, I do not do; but I practice the very evil that I do not wish” (NASB). Living in the liberty that Christ gave you by His death at Calvary is a result of understanding that He gives you the power to say no to old ways. The call of sin is the empty shout of false bondage; Jesus’ dying cry of “It is finished!” is your emancipation proclamation (John 19:30). You can say with Paul: “Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Rom. 7:25 NASB). Old habits die hard, Father, but I do want them to die. Help me shake off the negative patterns that have been entrenched in my life for years. - via Logos 5 #devotionalforsuchatimeasthis #christjesus #vineofchristministries #theword #studyscripture #god #biblestudy #bible #jesus #faith #dailydevotions #devotional
