A Devotional for such a time as this: - from: Tozer, A. W., & Snyder, J. L. (2013). My daily pursuit: devotions for every day. Ventura, CA: Gospel Light. _________________________________ Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. PSALM 103:13-14 When Jesus introduced the disciples to the fact that He would soon die on the cross, everyone to a man opposed the idea. Of course, Peter was the loudest voice in opposition. Not so, Lord, not so, Peter declared. The rest of the disciples nodded in agreement. In spite of and over all of their objections, Jesus went to the cross and died; if He had not died, they could not have lived. At the time, they did not understand this truth; but later on, after Pentecost, they understood it. When they understood it, for the first time they really began to live. Mercy was compassionate in the only way it could be at the moment, by dying. So Christ Jesus our Lord died there on that cross, for He loved us and pitied us as a father pities his children. One of the basic truths coming from this is that we who have received mercy must show mercy; and we must pray that God will help us to show mercy. This mercy can only come by atonement, but the good news is that atonement has been made. Mercy can operate toward us because of the atonement. Children of the heavenly Father Safely in His bosom gather; Nestling bird nor star in heaven Such a refuge e’er was given. CAROLINA V. SANDELL BERG (1832–1903) Dear Lord Jesus, Thy death seems like such a tragedy until I get on the other side of the cross. I can live for You today because You died for me yesterday. Praise the Lord!
