A FAREWELL TO MY MANY FRIENDS IN AUSTRALIA, SOLOMON ISLANDS, VANUATU, NAURU AND PAPUA NEW GUINEA! My mission in Australia, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Nauru and Papua Nueva Guinea comes to an end after a pleasant 4 years posting. Even though I am sure that the new Cuban Ambassador to these countries will fulfill all the pending tasks and advance new ones, I am personally sad because I am leaving many friends in this part of the world and also many ongoing projects with which I have been myself committed and that could help to develop even more our bilateral relations with this countries and peoples. I could happily confirm that during this period general exchanges and cooperation reached new levels in the fields of health, literacy, science culture and sports, but I realize we are still in the beginnings. I am deeply grateful for the support in the United Nations General Assembly, of all the countries and peoples where I am posted, to the Cuban Resolution against the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade that has been harming our population and country for more than half a century. Even when despite this overwhelming support to Cuba has had no results until now, we know that happenings in history are generally the consequence of accumulation of deeds and events in the medium and long range and that, in the future, when this criminal policy is described and evaluated in books of history and conceived in the mind of human beings (far from today’s demanding nasty politics an media manipulation), it will be clear in which part the faults really fall and the magnitude of the crime committed against our nation and friendly people during such a very long period. At the same time I must confirm gratefully that our long-lasting resistance could also be explained by this general support that has given us strong spiritual strength. Dear friend your backing has not being in vain. Likewise, receive our gratitude for the support that many of you have been giving to the campaign for the liberation of the Five Cubans unjustly imprisoned for already 16 years in the United States. It looks that the punishment of Cuba for committing the sin of maintaining a stubborn will to defend its independence and social system, at any cost, is capable of breaking any rational thinking, moral principle and human feeling in countries which policies are moved by imperial designs. Meanwhile we are resisting and doing everything in our hands for a better Cuba! Dear friends this noble attitudes towards Cuba have left on me deep impressions that won’t ever be obliterated.
