A FEW WORDS ON FEAR >>> Someone asked me recently what my definition of fear is. Following is my answer… Simply put, I’d contend that fear is anxiety or concern over what is to happen. It is a built in protection mechanism that originates from our primal need for safety/security. As a result of that need, it is normal for us to interpret the things that we see in the outside world - making a judgment call on the potential that those things, people and circumstances will bring us harm. In some cases, this is extremely beneficial - such as the fear of sticking your arm in fire. In many other cases however, not so much, such as meeting new people, public speaking or even finally committing to a decision that you know has the potential to greatly improve your life. Unlike in the case of the fire, these examples represent no clear looming danger - but are more simply based on a fear of the unknown. This is the type of fear that we need to do what’s necessary to become cognitive of and eliminate - for, in far too many cases, these types of baseless fears, are what ultimately causes severely limited, and less happy and fulfilled, lives. So what do you think? Do you agree? Would love to hear your feelings, thoughts and experiences below…
