A Fathers Sunday Morning: Because my son was born 3 days - TopicsExpress

A Fathers Sunday Morning: Because my son was born 3 days before I started nursing school, and we brought him home the night before I was to be in class at 8 am, I have not often (maybe once) been alone and in charge for more than an hour. Not by choice mind you, but simply out of necessity. My wife has selfishly afforded me the ability to study, sleep, test, sleep, worry, and most importantly, sleep. Today however my wife left to have a garage sale at her grandmothers house, and I am in charge. Its started off nice. Birds singing, sun shining, happiness was in the air. All hell broke loose when I mistakenly took my sons smiling face, while sitting in his high chair, for compliance. See....he was eating some scrambled eggs I had made for him, laced with the wonder drug referred to as ketchup. (Why kids like this Ill never know). He also had a spill proof container of flavored water. I simply left for 10-15 minutes to have my ritual morning shower. Something I have done for the last 22 months, every day without fail. This time when I got out of the shower and put some clothes on, the birds were no longer singing in our beloved kitchen. I walked into what I can only describe as food anarchy. My son had decided that he had too many eggs, and wanted to build a volcano on his tray. That volcano was covered in molten ketchup lava that had spilled onto the nice clean hardwood floor. He must have been putting out the fires of nearby burning villages with his drink because it too was covering every inch of him, the tray, and the beloved floor. How this can be done from a spill proof cup I have yet to understand. I think my son felt like a battle warrior because he was wearing the bowl, which previously held eggs and ketchup, as a hat, all while pointing and laughing. I just hope the dog wasnt hurt too much by that flying fork. After the hour of cleanup, and much needed bath, I decided to reflect on todays event. Today was a learning experience for me. I learned that in every situation I need to be prepared for battle. Not just in a hospital at work, but at home too. Because of this, I will be ready next time. I have found a strainer that will work great for a hat, and a pizza pan for a shield. Though the ketchup may lend itself to some realism, the cleanup is quite tedious. Will rethink that moving forward. Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday.
