A Federal Court ruled that FSP president Carla Gericke can move - TopicsExpress

A Federal Court ruled that FSP president Carla Gericke can move forward with her federal lawsuit against the Weare Police Department and several Weare officers. The case hinged on whether there is a First Amendment right to record police traffic stops. Yesterday, the First Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that there is such a right and the officers who arrested Gericke should have known that their actions violated it. In doing so, the Court allows Gericke’s case to move forward, unless it is settled. You can read the decision here: media.ca1.uscourts.gov/pdf.opinions/12-2326P-01A.pdf. Reason, whose editor-in-chief Nick Gillespie will be a keynote speaker at PorcFest this year, weighs in about the case. Get your tickets today: PorcFest.
