The seven were members of one gang, according to a report on Khaleej Times on Sunday. Brigadier Maktoum Al Sharifi, head of the Abu Dhabi police Capital Police Directorate, said the gang members are in the UAE on visitor visas. He said the gang would target different neighborhoods and time their robberies in such a way they will not attract attention. “The seven-member gang, (six Georgians and one Filipina), carried out the burglaries by breaking and entering through doors and windows of the targeted houses, before heading to their hideout to split the loot,” the report quotes Al Sharifi as saying. He said the gang members would knock on the target apartment’s door, pretending to be maintenance workers. Upon entering, they would make sure no one was in, then steal precious stones and gold jewelry. Al Sharifi said a raid on the gang’s hideout yielded a miniature smelter used to turn gold jewelry into gold bars or bullions. The Khaleej Times report said the police recovered all the stolen items from a hotel apartment in Dubai and a farmhouse in the Al Khatam region of Abu Dhabi. Police estimated the worth of the stolen goods at more than Dh1 million (P11.808 million). — BM, GMA News
