A GREAT REASON TO BELIEVE IN JESUS : “THE BINDING OF ISAAC” AROUND 1896 BC ISAAC WAS BORN TO SARAH IN HER OLD AGE ONE OF THE MOST DRAMATIC EPISODES IN THE BIBLE CALLED “THE AKEDAH “ = “THE BINDING” WHICH HAPPENED AT APPROX. 1859 BC WHEN ISAAC MAY HAVE BEEN 37 YEARS OLD FIRST WE MUST SEE HOW ISAAC , LIKE JESUS , IS THE MIRACULOUS SON PROMISED BY GOD jewishencyclopedia/articles/8148-isaac Second patriarch; son of Abraham and Sarah. He was the child of a miracle, for at the time of his birth his mother, hitherto childless, was ninety years old, and his father a hundred. By the command of God the child was named "Isaac" GEN 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram ( EXALTED FATHER ), but thy name shall be Abraham ( FATHER OF A MULTITUDE ) ; for a father of many nations have I made thee. GEN 17:15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai,( PRINCESS ) but Sarah ( NOBLEWOMAN ) [shall] her name [be]. GEN 17:16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be [a mother] of nations; kings of people shall be of her. GEN 17:17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall [a child] be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? GEN 17:18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee! GEN 17:19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, [and] with his seed after him. SEE NOTE 1 ISAAC IN HEBREW “YITSCHAQ “= “HE WHO LAUGHS” יִצְחָק ROOT = TSACHAQ = TO PLAY OR TO LAUGH k ah tsz yi WHAT COVENANT ? GEN 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. GEN 17:6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. GEN 17:7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. “THE BINDING” NARRATIVE GENESIS CHAPTER 22 GEN 22:1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, [here] I [am]. GEN 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only [son] Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. NOTE 2 GEN 22:3 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him. GEN 22:4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off. GEN 22:5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you. GEN 22:6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid [it] upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together. NOTE 3 GEN 22:7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here [am] I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where [is] the lamb for a burnt offering? GEN 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together. NOTE 4 GEN 22:9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. NOTE 5 GEN 22:10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. GEN 22:11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here [am] I. LORD = YEHOVAH GEN 22:12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only [son] from me. NOTE 6 GEN 22:13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind [him] a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. NOTE 7 GEN 22:14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said [to] this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen. ( REMEMBER THIS PROPHECY WAS GIVEN AT ABOUT 1896 BC ) יְהֹוָה יִרְאֵה Jehovah-jireh = "Jehovah sees" NOTE 1 GEN 17:19 ABOVE JESUS IS THE PROMISED SEED THROUGH WHICH THE ENTIRE WORLD IS BLESSED . HE IS “ THE SEED OF THE WOMAN “ PROMISED TO EVE IN GENESIS GEN 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee ( SATAN ) and the woman, and between thy seed ( HATERS OF GOD ) and her seed ( BELIEVERS IN GOD ) ;it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. JESUS IS ALSO THE SEED OF KING DAVID : 1 KINGS 11:29 , JER 13:22 2 TIMOTHY 2:8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: NOTE 2 GEN 22:3 ABOVE MT. MORIAH IS WHERE JESUS WAS TO BE CRUCIFIED 2 CHRONICLES 3:1 Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where [the LORD] appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. NOTE 3 GEN 22:6 ABOVE NOTICE ISAAC CARRIED THE WOOD JUST LIKE JESUS CARRIED THE WOODEN CROSS NOTE 4 GEN 22:8 ABOVE My son, God will provide himself a lamb LUKE 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. NOTE 5 GEN 22:9 ABOVE GEN 22:9 …. and ( ABRAHAM ) bound Isaac his son REMEMBER THAT ABRAHAM WAS 100 YEARS OLD AND ISAAC WAS CONSIDERED BY TALMUDIC SAGES TO BE 37 YEARS OLD THIS MEANS THAT ISAAC WILLINGLY SUBMITTED TO BEING TIED UP TO BE SACRIFICED NOTE 6 GEN 22:12 ABOVE ….. thy son, thine only [son] JOHN 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. ABRAHAM HAD A 13 YR OLD SON BORN OF HIS SERVANT HAGAR HIS NAME WAS ISHMAEL . SARAH HAD LOST FAITH IN GOD’S PROMISE AND PROMPTED ABRAHAM TO TAKE HAGAR TO GIVE ABRAHAM A SON THUS HE WAS NOT CONSIDERED BY GOD AS THE FIRSTBORN BECAUSE HE WAS NOT THE SEED PROMISED BY GOD TO BE BORN OF ABRAHAM AND SARAH IN THEIR OLD AGE ( A MIRACLE SIMILAR TO THE VIRGIN BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST ) NOTE 7 GEN 22:13 ABOVE GEN 22:13 ….. and behold behind [him] a ram caught in a thicket by his horns MARK 15:17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his [head], GALATIANS 3:6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. GAL 3:7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. GAL 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, [saying], In thee shall all nations be blessed. GEN 3:9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. HEBREWS 11:11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. HEBREWS 11:6 But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
