A Home for Emily Chp12 By Sydney Lucke-Angel on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 10:35pm Oliver and Brooke A Christmas Story Part I. Brooke in her office talking on her cell phone as Oliver walks in. Brooke: Are you sure you won’t be able to make it? I really wanted you to come. If it’s money I can send you a ticket? Oh ok if you’re sure. Yeah a little… I love you too. Ok bye. Oliver: Who was that? Brooke: That was Laura he wont be able to come and Jamie is going to be delayed. In fact none of my family will be here. (She says looking and feeling very disappointed) Oliver: Oh I’m so sorry to see you so sad. Perhaps we can get them here for the New Year. (He says coming to her tilting her head up and kissing her lightly) Brooke: I know but I really wanted everyone to be here and meet you. I’m just a little disappointed. Oliver: Oh, (He says feeling a little guilty) I’m so sorry I was so looking forward to having everyone for the holiday. Brooke: Me too you know what I’m not going to give up, I’m going to keep my finger crossed. Oliver I’ll tell you what I have something that will cheer you up but your going to have to but on your hat coat and boots in fact. (He walking back out to the hallway and coming back in with a very large box) Here you go my dear Merry Christmas! (He says laying it down on the sofa) Brooke: Oh my goodness what is this? (She says looking at it) It’s a shame to open it (She says staring at the ornate box) Oliver: Go ahead open it! (He says excitedly Brooke looks back at the box then tares into it with the excitement of a small child. She pulls from the box a full-length mink coat with matching muff and hat) Brooke: Oh…My..Lord! What is this? (Says staring at it eyes bright) Oliver: What does it remind you of? Brooke: It reminds of something from the Charles Dickens! (She laughs) All we need is a horse drawn carriage and it will be picture perfect! (She smiles) It’s gorgeous! Thank you! (She says then kisses him passionately) Oliver: Ahhh now you’re getting it! I guess you haven’t looked out the window for a while? Brooke: No I got busy. I was editing an article. (She shrugs) Oliver: Her put this on! (He says holding out the coat for her as she slips into its soft folds.) Brooke: I feel kind of guilty with anti fur people and all. Oliver: Don’t worry about it just tell them it’s imitation. Besides minks, they’re rodents if any of them found one in their house they would call an exterminator. (He shrugs waiting for her to adjust her hat and snatch her purse. Then grasps her hand in his and pulls her toward the elevators pressing the buttons frantically in an effort to make the car come faster causing Brooke to smile and then chuckles as he taps his foot impatiently the entire ride down) Oliver: Look (He says leading her the door and onto the side walk. Brooke looks at the scene around her and can only stare in awe and amazement) Oliver: I was watching the weather this morning and I was being most cooperative there was a storm front coming in. When I left the house this morning I went to town hall for my meeting then I went to see the Mayor. I decided that it was already a bad year for most people and it might cheer them up to do some thing fun. So I paid to have the town decorated for the holiday Charles Dickens style I even arranged to have sleigh rides through the park. See (He says pointing at one loading up with passengers below). It been snowing since early afternoon and with any luck the weather will continue to do my bidding. (He says circling his arms around her and holding her close as the snow swirls around them) Brooke: It is absolutely beautiful I can’t believe you did all this! (She says looking around excitedly at the snow covered street children running toward them sleds and snowboards in hand. Carolers on the corner, it looked exactly like a scene from a Charles Dickens novel of a Norman Rockwell painting) Oliver: What’s the point of having lots of money if you can’t do something fun with it. Look how happy they all are. Look at the children (He says pointing at a group of kids their face pressed against the window watching the train village display) they will never forget this. (He says kissing her cheek then stepping to the edge of the curb puts his fingers to his lips then whistles loudly. From nowhere a horse drawn carriage pulls up to the sidewalk and stops in front of them. The driver steps down and opens the door for them then assists Brooke up into it. Oliver reaches into a small compartment and pulls out a lap blanket then spreads it over their laps. Oliver: Once around the park please and then to the Chateau. Brooke: This is absolutely beautiful! I can’t believe you did all this! Oliver: I can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner! (He says putting his arm around her and pulling her close as they pass villagers skating on the pond kids sledding and snowboarding down the big hill in the park couples cuddled up on park benches a huge snowball fight) Brooke: Look at the ice sculptures! (She says pointing to the row of people all working feverously on their projects a mixture of ice and falling snow showering them as they work) Oliver: And we are here! (He announces, as the carriage draws to a stop in front of the Chateau. Oliver jumps down quickly and offering his hand to Brooke as she steps down on to the sidewalk. Doorman: Good evening! (He says tipping his hat then opening the door for them. Brooke: Wow! It’s been a long time since I’ve been here! A friend of mine used to own it. (She remarks as Oliver helps her remove her coat and hands them to the coat check girl) Oliver: Yes, I believe you said his name was Nick Davis. Nick Davis: Enchante Madame and Monsiuer! And welcome to the “Le Chateau”! Brooke: As I live and breath, Nick Davis! (She says hugging and kissing him) What are you doing here? Nick: Sweet heart I wouldn’t miss this for the world! (He says with a wink then leads to the dinning room doors opening them and exposing the main dinning-room. Brooke peers into the room her jaw dropping incomplete disbelief in front of her stands her entire family Jamie and Laura her soon to be step son Rego, all of Pine Valley’s elite including some un-expected out of towners! Link and Kelly, Donna and Chuck, Benny and Emily, Cecily and Charlie, Hillary and Frank, Tom and Olivia, Mark and Ellen.) Brooke: How did you do all of this? (She says turning to Oliver and jumping into his arms) You are absolutely amazing! (She squeals hugging him tightly then showering his face with kisses as everyone laughs and applauds. Oliver gently pulls away then kneels down on one knee) Oliver: Brooke English, I have loved you from the very night that I saw you when you came upon me pacing around Dmitri’s garden trying to think of what to say to you! I would like nothing more then to spend the rest of my life making you happy. I’m asking you today in front of your closest friends and family, would you do me the honor and the privilege of being my wife? (Brooke stands before him her hands shaking her smile lighting up the room tears of joy streaming down her cheeks. Brooke: Leonid Oliveri Sherrigan, (She says her voice trembling) I would like nothing more in this world than to be your wife! Copyright Takeitish Pine Valley Chronicles 2012
