A Jersey City Story of Love and Tragedy My Grand Uncle Alexander - TopicsExpress

A Jersey City Story of Love and Tragedy My Grand Uncle Alexander Kontje was born in 1881 And lived with his parents and siblings at 74 Orient Ave. He was a Public Service Trolley Motorman. He and his Girlfriend Maggie Walsh became engaged in 1910 and a few days later posed for this photograph. They made plans to Wed in three months. A few weeks after their announcement, Maggie Took a wicker basket of wash up to the roof of her parents home to hang and dry. While hanging the clothes, a gust of wind hit her and she lost her balance. She tripped on the wicker basket, stumbled and fell from the roof and perished. Alexander grieved for the rest of his life and died 11 years later at the age of 40. I tell their story in remembrance of them.
