A KIKUYU MINDSET Njuguna Karanja is a hawker in Nakuru town selling njugu karanga, biscuits, soft drinks and other snacks to travellers in bus and matatu terminus. The last time he was in a stadium to attend a public or political event was at Kasarani to celebrate the inauguration of Uhuru Kenyatta, his political idol. After that he was done with the political hullabaloo. Even if Uhuru is addressing a rally in Afraha he wouldnt be bothered an iota to listen to the usual political rhetoric as he would be busy selling his snacks. He quips I have to pay rent and I have an aim to buy my own Nissan matatu in two years, I have no time for politics, si tulimaliza uchanguzi na Uhuru ni Prezzo, nini tena? Maisha lazima iendelee ama mtu wangu? Uhuru will not buy me the nissan I want so i got to work hard. He adds I have got a gal I want to marry before December, na budake lazima nimulipe dowry, sasa Uhuru atanibaia pia bibi? So tomorrow dressed in ODM colours he is headed to Uhuru park to sell njugus and other snacks where he expects to do a booming business to fulfil his goals.
