A LITTLE BIT IS OFTEN TOO GOOD… Human nature dictates that we always crave for so much. We are always hungry for more, more and more….. At work we look forward to the day our salaries will be increased, socially we always want to make new friends and contacts, at church we want to know more of God, at home we want more peace and happiness, more money on our bank accounts etc but sometimes, too much often ends up not being good. Usually a little bit of good things gets finished when it is still loved. That is why the all beautiful diamond, costly gold and the precious silver come in small quantities. Delicious chocolate and ice cream also comes in small packs. When it comes to people, Iam told that, “obukazi obutono bulina ekyama” (small women come with a secret). Iam yet to confirm. But as for men, I can proudly prove that, “the smaller the monkey, the longer the tail.” Figure it out! Certainly, the sole reason why most of us adore old albums is simply because those snaps are not many. They are actually so few. If you remember well, taking a snap back in the day was not that regular. Family pictures were mainly taken on special days like Xmas, Easter or parties. Camera men were also not numerous so they had to be booked in advance. For anyone to get a snap, he or she had to be smartly dressed and very ready for the shot. Smiling was a must so everyone had to find atleast a reason to smile or else he misses in the snap. If somebody couldn’t afford to be happy, he or she had say certain words such as cheese, chapatti, chips etc which would be disguised as a smile. Camera men of those days also ensured quality so they had to choose the best position before taking the snap. In fact all those guys were physically fit because they would squat, bend, lie down and “kill” one eye searching for the best posture. When they would confirm that the best position had been got, they would then warn loudly that the snap will be shot for the posing people to be ready in 3, 2, 1… shoot! Those snaps took a lot of time but it was worth it because it is the best quality ones that would be got. Then due to the fact that the cameras were manual, films would be used to store the taken picture. They were abit expensive to be “washed” so the number of snaps had to be few. Due to the reasons mentioned above, the few snaps had no choice but to be good. But today things are different. Camera men are no longer relevant since almost everyone owns a camera. Then the cameras no longer use films which were costly to develop. Digital cameras have memory cards where all photos are stored. Printed photos are now less relevant. The cards have enough space for infinity snaps. People therefore take snaps as and when they want. Whether they are smart or not, they take photos anyway. Looking in people`s digital albums is so boring because there are many similar snaps. Thus too much of anything is always bad!
