A LITTLE bit more on the case of my grandfather, Jim Double Orvad, and his mate Don Walker, being caught drinking in the Bulli Family Hotel after hours in 1936 (see a previous post). One of the witnesses called was barman, Edward Cullen. Cullen was the son of Edward Cullen Senior, who committed suicide in the pub in 1929. Cullen seniors ghost, Old Ted is said to still haunt the pub. Illawarra Mercury Friday 31 July 1936: BULLI HOTEL CASES; James Orvad and Donald Walker each pleaded guilty to a charge of beinging found on the licensed premises of the Family Hotel, at Bulli, on 27th June last,; after trading hours.
