A MESSAGE FROM DR. TOBY EASLEY, PASTOR Monday at midnight the United States Federal Government went into a partial shutdown. Many Federal employees woke up Tuesday morning without a job realizing the day would be spent seeking other interests. Funds for their particular departments were suspended until further actions by the Congress and Senate are approved. As a Christian, I am thankful that God never shuts down His protection of us and the universe. The Psalmist wrote, “Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep” (Psalm 121:4). Our God also does not depend upon external entities for funding and the Scripture boldly proclaims, “For every beast of the forest is Mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills” (Psalm 50:10). All Christians should realize “The American Dream” as we know it is only a temporary attainment. All of the richest men in the history of this great Nation who have died left this world with none of their possessions. The material belongings they owned remain on this earth for others to inherit, sell, and purchase. Many of these wealthy American families have passed the wealth from one generation to another. Unfortunately, several of these billionaires have based their legacy upon maintaining a money trail in perpetuity without regard to God’s Kingdom. However, the wisdom of Scripture teaches that one day all of the governmental and financial institutions of this world will give way to an eternal Kingdom that will give riches in perpetuity. Paul told the Ephesians, “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints” (Ephesians 1:18). Perhaps this “shutdown” will cause some in the government to pause and ponder the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit who created and started up the whole universe. The Psalmist urged all nations, peoples, kings, rulers, and judges of the earth to “Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him” (Psalm 2:12). If you are looking for a church home, let me challenge you to pray about setting roots down here among these loving people. I trust you will sense a warm welcome at GBF. Please let me know if I can answer any questions. Blessings, Dr. Toby Easley
