A Message for the 66th Anniversary of Israels Independence- I am delighted to wish the Jewish-Australian community and the people of Israel a happy Yom Ha’atzmaut on the 66th anniversary of Israel’s independence. This occasion is celebrated proudly by Jewish communities around the world as well as in Israel. NSW, with a Jewish population of 40,000, is no exception. Yom Ha’atzmaut calls on us to honour those who have worked to achieve Israel’s nationhood and who continue to work to build a bright future for its people. The enduring friendship and respect between Australia and Israel owes much to the role that the active Jewish-Australian community has played in making NSW a successful multicultural and multi-faith society. The Jewish-Australian community’s contribution to NSW is characterised by a demonstrated commitment to connecting with Australians from all walks of life, a determination to succeed, and a strong social justice ethic that has ultimately enriched life in our State. As Minister for Citizenship and Communities, I appreciate the support and expertise that the Jewish community has provided on many issues, particularly with regard to our shared efforts to promote interfaith dialogue and the benefits of cultural diversity. I wish the Jewish community of NSW and the people of Israel a joyous independence celebration and may the years ahead bring lasting peace and harmony to all. Yom Ha’atzmaut Sameach!
