A New Year Promise: To JoAnn Fashina, Boston Massachusetts, USA. For some time now you have expressed a desire to know about your Bermuda Roots ...............well first of all you are my fathers great niece, my paternal grandmothers great granddaughter. l promise I will have a nice bound copy of your Ratteray Family Tree ready for you, your siblings, children and grandchildren no later than the end of February 2015. It is a large document dating from 1827...... I might add, the contributions made by your Ancestors down through the years here in Bermuda is very impressive. Men who were tradesmen, master Stone Masons, first Plumbers, helping to build the HM Dockyard and hundreds of houses mainly in Sandys / Southampton Parish (no lazy men in our family girl) :). There were School teachers; medical doctors, lawyers, ordained Ministers........... why Bermudas first Bermudian Anglican Bishop was our first cousin! And another FIRST your grandmothers uncle, was the first trained and ordained AFRICAN METHODIST (A.M.E.) MINISTER. Then the FIRST Dentist in our family..... interestingly enough after completing his education and unable to find acceptance in Bermuda because of his ethnicity he settled in BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS! There he had a dental practice with mostly Chinese families therefore, he spoke their language fluently. You will read that the British Royal Family have records of having bestowed a KNIGHTHOOD on one of our immediate cousins! (Why yours truly even has a lesser significant record in the Royal Archives (um grinning)........ You will then see that Bermuda is indeed where your Family Roots began................Paternal Grandfather (Brangman) and Maternal Grandmother (Ratteray- Brangman). I wish for you a Happy New Year.
