Family update: I just wanted to update everyone on the housing situation for Sebastiana, Pedro, Andrea and Theresa. The plan is still to find them some land and build them a house. Although despite a lot of effort to find land, everything down in Barrio 3 is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE! We are still looking at a few options but until land is found the collecting of funds is being put on hold. We raised just over $1000 to help this family, which is not enough to buy land and build a house but again once land is acquired, I will do my best to raise some more for them. Until then however this is what I am proposing. They have had to leave their makeshift plastic house and moved to Lucas house next to where they sell the vegetables for now.. As rains are quickly approaching, I would like to use some of the money to pay their rent for the rainy season so at least they can stay dry and warm. Sebastiana is often sick these days and although it is not the driest of buildings we can at least put some plastic or new lamina on the roof so they dont get soaked. The rent is Q300 per month. If any of you feel this is not okay and would like your donation sent back please let me know and I will be happy to refund your money. However like I stated, this is a temporary measure until some more permanent arrangements can be made! Again if you are a land owner and would like to sell a small piece of land down here for them it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! The Festival Of Consciousness will also be looking at donating some money to help them out! I apologize for not moving faster but we are in Guatemala after all and everything seems to take a lot of time and patience!
