A Newport home is now boarded up for at least three months, after Alway Neighbourhood Policing Team obtained an anti-social behaviour closure order from Cwmbran Magistrates Court on Tuesday 28th October 2014. Evidence was presented at Cwmbran Magistrates, explaining that there would be visitors constantly hanging around in the street, shouting and swearing and the family would often get drunk leading to altercations inside and outside the house. The family also kept 4 dogs which were allowed to roam the area, barking and keeping residents awake into the early hours of the morning. Residents explained that the driving of the family was reckless with cars being abandoned in the street causing an obstruction for other vehicles. They drove at speed, using their horns at all hours of the day and night, playing loud music and acting anti-socially. Local residents have also been in fear that their property and vehicles would be damaged by the family. As a result of the orders, steel shutters have been installed and the properties will remain boarded up for a minimum of three months. During this time anyone who attempts to enter the properties, can be arrested by police. PC Simon Richens explained: “This Closure Order is the result of 8 months of work with our partner agencies to tackle these issues. Without the support and co-operation of the residents of Alway, this closure order wouldnt have been possible. I’d like to thank them for their support.” Inspector Kevin Warren from Alway Neighbourhood Policing Team, whose team oversaw the closure said: Residents in Alway have the right to live in a peaceful environment where they don’t fear for their safety. Anyone compromising this should expect action to be taken. We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour of any kind and I would urge other members of the community whose lives are affected by anti-social behaviour, to let us know so that we can address it. We will work closely with housing providers in the area to crack down on problematic tenants and we would like to thanks the private landlord, who has worked closely with on this case. If you’re suffering from anti-social behaviour, please contact Gwent Police on 101 or if a crime is taking place or in an emergency, dial 999.
