A News in TOI today highlights the truly Sad STATE of Affairs in WB: CM Mamata Banerjee has made former Naxalite and trade union leader Dola Sen the vice-chairperson of the West Bengal Womens Commission. Sen fought the LS polls from Asansol and lost to BJPs Babul Supriyo. The newly inducted Sen, who is the Indian National Trinamool Trade Union Congress (INTTUC) president, on taking charge, has said, We shall follow the Mamata (chief minister) Model. We are here to help the chief minister, even as the West Bengal Commission for Women has been functioning as an autonomous statutory body since 1993. A womans activist who chose not to be named said, If members of the ruling party are inducted into the commission and are blatantly vouching to function on behalf of the chief minister, then what is the use of having a womans commission in the state? NOW, who would answer that question, FORGET answering distress call from women !!!!
