A PETITION calling for immediate police action has been launched after two workers at the Anastasia Beach Hotel in Protaras threw a small dog into a garbage crushing machine. The petition posted on change.org states the dog: Was deliberately caught and thrown into a commercial cardboard crushing machine on the orders of the manager of a large hotel in Protaras, Cyprus. The agonised, piercing screams of this helpless little soul were heard by horrified tourists.”2,000 people signed the petition within just two hours. The public relations department at the hotels parent company are not answering calls and the hotel itself is not returning calls, despite repeated requests throughout the afternoon for clarifications. Hundreds of comments calling for a boycott of the establishment have already been posted online. A statement from the Animal Welfare Party said that its leader Kyriacos Kyriacou had visited the injured dog at a vet in Protaras and police were now involved in the case. The case is under investigation, they have also taken testimonies from the owner and the manager of the hotel and the citizen who gave the information to the Police, the statement read. The two perpetrators, a Cypriot and a Bulgarian, who were fired from hotel Anastasia” are at large and the Police are still searching for them, the statement added.Stella Stylianou from Argos Animal Welfare told the Famagusta Gazette that those responsible must be named and shamed. They should be named and shamed. Its already happening now. Why should their names be kept out of a newspaper? Because they are a hotel?, Stylianou said. The Animal Party have described the incident as barbaric and called for a change in mentality.
