A PLEA FOR HELP: If there is ANY way you can help these caring owners please do... Good luck Ellie (Baileys Mum) xxx Bailey is a lovely 2 year old Springer Spaniel. He loves all dogs, humans and children. He is very affectionate, gentle and intelligent. His favourite activities are chasing tennis balls, swimming, tearing up grass and playing with his friends. Bailey accidentally swallowed an elastic band which got stuck and tore a hole in his intestines. He has had 3 life saving operations in November and December which removed 75cm of damaged intestines and treated him for peritonitis, spending nearly 3 weeks in intensive care. We had insurance of £6500 and this was used up with his first two operations and a few days of intensive care (each day in intensive care costs between £500 and £1000 depending on how much life support is needed). We have used all our savings, taken on loans, opened credit cards, ebayed and worked overtime to enable him to have these treatments. No one could have anticipated his bad luck and that he would need so many operations in so little time. Our dog owner friends suggested starting this page because they wanted to help and we have been astounded by the kindness we have witnessed. We have a large bill due for the third operation which he had at midnight on the 13th December and his weeks treatment for Peritonitis at the Royal Veterinary College in Potters Bar. He then had a check up scan on the 22nd December and the poor boy had some fluid in his abdomen again, but they decided to extract with a needle while he was sedated rather than to open him up for a fourth time. Bailey was allowed home just before Christmas, for 6 weeks of rest and a very long course of antibiotics to hopefully completely get rid of the infection. He will have an ultrasound in mid-January to see if this has been successful. In the meantime we have to monitor Bailey very carefully and rush him to the hospital if we see any change in his behaviour, appetite etc. It continues to be a very anxious time for our family. Bailey will need further check ups in 2015 and as we have used up all his insurance he has no cover until August. We have reached out to charities and to the hospitals thats have treated Bailey, but unfortunately if Bailey needs any more expensive treatment and we cannot find the money, the only option would be to put him down. What Bailey has gone through in the past weeks is all linked. Once he is over this, it should not be a long term issue for him and he should live a long and happy life. We are reaching out to animal lovers for help. Bailey has fought very hard against odds of under 20-40% survival on 4 occasions now, so it would be hugely sad to give up on him. Every penny raised will go towards his bills. Bailey has his own page on Facebook: Bailey Cooper and also a group: Help Bailey Dog which are full of photos and more information on Baileys story. A big thank you for reading and supporting . https://m.facebook/groups/941897635839322?ref=bookmark gofundme/helpbaileydog #helpbaileydog
