A Peoples Democratic governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Remilekun Bakare, has said the governorship slot in the 2015 elections has not been zoned to any particular district or constituency in the state. He said this in an interview with our correspondent in Abeokuta. Bakare said those who were alleging that the governorship seat had been zoned to a particular section of the state were peddlers of rumours, stressing that as far as he was concerned there was no such arrangement. He said the leadership of the party in the state had promised to give each candidate a level-playing field. He said, “I am not aware of any zoning, and the party has promised each and every one of us a level playing field. As of the last count, we are actually 10 contesting. Six from Ogun-Central, three from Ogun West and one from Ogun East. “You see it is one thing when you are outside, but when you are inside, you will discover that all these speculations are not true.” Bakare who was a front-runner in the governorship race in the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria in 2011, before the ticket was given to the incumbent governor, Ibikunle Amosun, noted that he defected to the PDP, because he believed that it would be the platform to actualise his dream, given the crisis which had hit the All Progressives Congress. He said, “I will say that the state has not really utilised its proximity to the commercial centre of Nigeria, Lagos. “Ogun ought to have developed beyond this level and I am sure things will be better. And that’s why for someone like me who has been a success in the private sector, I believe that it is better to get involved in the system than to be criticising it from outside.” Copyright PUNCH.
