A Pile of American Bison skulls waiting to be ground for fertilizer in the mid-1870s. Before the European settlers arrived there were over 50 million bison roaming the plains of America, but after a few decades of unbelievable mass killing there were only around 2,000 left. The killing of the Bison was seen as a way to get rich and also just something to do for shits and giggles. Although there was another far more evil reason for hunting them to extinction as well, Bison was the primary food source of the Native Indians, and killing them was one of the most effective ways to drive the natives from their lands.
