A Postcard in my collection. A Rose Series photo postcard P.5027. Mint. Sydney, Lane Cove c1923. The small ferry Lady Ferguson is seen adjacent to the coal stage at Fig Tree Lane, Lane Cove in the early 1920. Built at Balmain in 1914, Lady Ferguson was one of 5 sister ferries that operated on inner harbour services. Her sister were Lady Denman, Lady Chelmsford, Lady Edeline and Lady Scott and all had a capacity of around 450-550 passengers. (In comparison, the bigger K Class ferries could carry as many as 1700 passengers.) Lady Ferguson operated on Sydney Harbour until the early 1970s, by which time she was in poor condition. When Hobarts Derwent River Bridge partly collapsed in 1974, Lady Ferguson and Kosciusko were towed south to provide a stop-gap ferry service. But the long sea journey only worsened Lady Fergusons condition and on arrival in Hobart she was deem to be unfit for further service. she was broken up in Hobart in 1977. Of the 5 small Lady ferries, only Lady Denman survives. you can see her in dry-dock and completely protected from the weather at her birthplace - Huskisson, Jervis Bay on the NSW South Coast.
