A Pre-frontal narrow band of moderate to heavy snow has been falling 40-50 miles north and south of a line from the Alexandria-Little Falls-Hinkley areas since before sunrise this morning. 3-4 inches has accumulated since around 3am. Still thinking the heaviest snowfall today and tonight will be in the areas of north central and northeast Minnesota bounded by Morris, Willmar, St. Cloud, Brainerd, Grand Marais, Duluth, Hinckley, and Forest Lake where 8-12 inches of snow will fall. My bullseye for the heaviest snow (12-14 inches) is to the areas south of the southern edge of Lake Superior.....Ironwood, Superior, Park Hill in MN and Wisconsin. It will stay dry for the most part through the Twin Cities and our six county area through early afternoon. Could see the occasional snow/rain shower until then. May see a brief period of moderate rain late this afternoon before it turns to all snow after 6pm. I have upped my snowfall forecasts for the northern parts of my forecast area due to some enhanced moisture and upper level dynamics sagging further south. Here is what I am thinking: For my Friends in Maple Grove and Rogers: 5-8. For my Norske friends in Fargo/Grand Forks: 1-2 inches. LeSueur/Rice/Blue Earth Counties: 4-6 inches. 3-4 inches from Mankato south. Northern Goodhue County including Cannon Falls, Miesville, Red Wing: 4-6 inches. Could see 7-8 inches from north of Red Wing up towards Prescott and Hastings. Southern Goodhue County including Zumbrota, Pine Island, Kenyon, Wanamingo, Goodhue: 3-5 inches. Winds will kick up out of the northwest late this afternoon and there will be some issues with blowing snow overnight. Snow will end and conditions will improve from west to east after midnight and into early Wednesday morning. Stay safe! Waseca/Steele Counties: 2-4 inches.
